Geography Grade 9 - Environmental Project

Purpose: to investigate Ontario's environmental record

Library Skills: to use Electric Library [current news source]; to construct a Boolean search to find magazine and newspaper information.  Students receive marks in their Library duotangs for Electric Library.

Procedure:

• Students choose one environmental issues relevant to Ontario today [garbage, pollution, smog, global warming, toxic waste, Great Lakes...]
• Students receive a lesson from Library staff on accessing Electric Library from the school's Library web page. 
• Students complete a Boolean search at Electric Library [ie. Ontario and garbage; Ontario and Great Lakes] restricting their search to Newspapers and Magazines.
• Students select and read 2 relevant articles and fill in the chart below
